Bookreviews ‘Diverging Conversations through Facilitation’

Great Cases.
‘Diverging conversations through facilitation’ gives a great insight on facilitation and how it really works to improve otherwise dreadful meetings and retreats. There’s lots of inspiration and nice little ideas to be found in all the 24 cases.

A truly useful book
This book gives a clear perspective on the profession of facilitator and what he or she can deliver to a client. Though it is a practical book, it is not a “How to do”- manual.
The first and last 20 pages provide a framework for facilitation and decision making regarding the facilitation process. The major part of the book is used to describe 24 different but exemplary cases in which facilitation is used as a professional intervention. The cases cover a wide range of organisational issues in different industries and in very different countries and cultures.
Interesting in the texts of the case studies is that they all start with quotes from the client, the problem definition (the “Knot”) and question of the client.
This book is not written as a page turner, but the structure allows you to go through it in different ways. And this makes it easy to read.

It is the credit of the large group of authors and co-authors that this book makes its promise. It can be used as a source of ideas and inspiration, but it also provides understanding of what the profession of facilitation really is and helps to make decisions on client’s side regarding facilitation.
